C-20 HVAC insurance in California. CSLB already wants workers’ comp.
If you hold a C-20, the board requires workers’ comp even when you have no employees. If coverage is required, a lapse will automatically suspend the license. GCs still want general liability, additional-insured language on the certificate, and a COI before you set foot on site. Book this week. We’ll review which Farmers coverages apply — including Farmers workers’ comp — what the bid packet asks for, and what we can place, including filing the WC certificate with CSLB as certificate holder when we have a policy to file from.
What HVAC contractors call us about
Sound familiar?
C-20 WC even if you work alone — a lapse will automatically suspend the license.
GC wants additional insured + waiver by Friday and the last COI bounced.
Tools in the van are not on the GL — that’s Farmers commercial auto; tools at the shop are BOP / business property.
Coverage availability is subject to eligibility, underwriting, policy terms, exclusions, limits, and applicable law. We review what you need and what we can place; not every request can be bound. Certificates of insurance are issued only from an in-force policy.
HVAC review this week. CSLB filing path from an in-force policy. COI if we can issue; bind appointment if not.
- Bring the bid packet, the GC’s certificate request, and your license class.
- We review which Farmers coverages apply, and what we can place.
- You leave with a next step — not a form in a pile.
Didn’t they delay workers’ comp to 2028?
The general no-employee exemption lasts until 1/1/2028. C-20 (and C-8, C-22, C-39, C-61/D-49) already cannot file that exemption. You need WC now.
