Important — not legal advice.
This page is a template draft for SDL Commercial Insurance. It is not legal advice and has not been reviewed or approved by agency counsel or Farmers Insurance compliance. Do not rely on it as a final compliance document until your attorney and/or Farmers compliance have reviewed and approved it. Items marked for counsel remain open until attorney / Farmers compliance review.

1. Who we are

SDL Commercial Insurance is the public name (DBA) for the Samuel D Landers Agency, an independent Farmers Insurance agency. We help California artisan contractors — HVAC, electricians, flooring installers, landscapers, plumbers, and related trades — with Farmers commercial products (general liability, commercial auto, BOP / business property, workers’ comp, and umbrella). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit our website, call us, book an appointment, opt in to SMS, or work with us on a quote or policy.

When we say “we,” “us,” or “our,” we mean the Samuel D Landers Agency doing business as SDL Commercial Insurance.

2. Scope

This policy covers information collected through:

  • Our Squarespace-hosted website at sdlcommercialinsurance.com (and pages on that site)
  • Online scheduling / booking (Google Calendar appointment links on /schedule, including “Meet in the field” and “Quick call” options)
  • Click-to-call and phone conversations at (408) 876-7107
  • Web forms and intake: our primary intake paths are phone at (408) 876-7107, the /schedule booking page (Google Calendar), and our SMS opt-in form at https://www.sdlcommercialinsurance.com/sms-opt-in, where you can provide a mobile number and check an unchecked consent box to receive texts from us. There is no separate general contact/inquiry form live on the site at this time; if we add one, we will update this policy.
  • SMS / text messaging when you provide a mobile number and consent to receive texts (see also our SMS Terms & Conditions)
  • Links to our social profiles (X, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Server and platform logs that our host or tools may create when you visit

It does not cover Farmers Insurance corporate websites, carrier portals, or other third-party sites you may leave ours to visit. Those have their own privacy practices.

3. What personal information we collect

A) Information you provide

Depending on how you interact with us, you may give us:

  • Contact details — name, phone number (including mobile), email address, business name
  • Appointment details — preferred time, trade/type of business, brief notes you enter when booking
  • SMS / text preferences — mobile number and consent to receive SMS (appointment reminders, account/service notifications, coverage follow-ups such as COI requests, and marketing if you opt in)
  • Insurance / quoting information — business operations, locations, payroll or receipts estimates, license info, claims history, certificates of insurance (COI) needs, and related underwriting details needed to quote, bind, or service coverage
  • Messages — questions or notes you send by phone, form, SMS, or email (privacy@sdlfarmers.com)

Some of this information can be sensitive in an insurance context (for example, claims history or financial estimates used for quoting). We collect it only as needed to serve you.

Information collected automatically

When you visit our site, our hosting platform and related tools may automatically collect:

  • IP address, browser type, device type, and general location derived from IP
  • Pages viewed, referring URL, date/time of visit
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookie Policy)
  • Server / access logs maintained by Squarespace

Analytics: Google Analytics 4 is enabled on this Squarespace site (measurement ID G-3EGHVQ78C7) and collects usage data as described in Google’s policies.

Call recording: Phone calls to or from our RingCentral business numbers may be recorded where call recording is enabled. California is an all-party consent state, so where recording occurs we aim to notify you at the start of the call; if you prefer not to be recorded, tell us and we will stop the recording or continue the call without it.

Booking embeds: When you use our Google Calendar appointment scheduling, Google may process information you enter and technical data related to that booking under Google’s terms and privacy policy.

4. Categories of personal information (CCPA/CPRA — California)

Under California law, the following categories may apply to information we have collected in the past 12 months (as applicable to how you interact with us):

Category (examples) Collected? Typical sources Typical purposes

Sensitive personal information (as defined by CPRA; e.g., certain financial or account data if provided for insurance) May be collected for quoting/binding You Place and service coverage with Farmers Insurance / underwriters

We do not intentionally collect government ID numbers, precise geolocation, or biometric data through the marketing website alone. If such data is needed for underwriting or licensing, it would typically be collected through appropriate insurance application channels — [NEED: confirm agency application / Farmers portal practices with counsel].

5. How we use personal information

B) How personal information is used

We use personal information to:

  • Respond to calls, messages, and booking requests
  • Schedule meetings (Meet in the field — 30 minutes, or Quick call — 15 minutes)
  • Send SMS / text messages only if you have opted in, including appointment reminders, account/service notifications, coverage follow-ups (for example COI follow-up), and marketing messages as described in our SMS Terms & Conditions
  • Provide insurance quotes, bind coverage, issue or update certificates of insurance, and service policies through Farmers Insurance
  • Share information needed to place and service coverage with Farmers Insurance and Farmers underwriters / program partners as required for quoting, binding, and servicing (this is not “shopping the market” — our marketing and product placement are Farmers-only)
  • Operate, secure, and improve our website
  • Comply with law, licensing, and insurance regulations
  • Defend legal claims or investigate fraud or misuse, where appropriate

We do not sell your information on marketing lists to other companies. For paid marketing we may use Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Google Ads, and LinkedIn. As of this update, advertising pixels/tags for those platforms are disclosed here but are not installed on the site yet. When installed, they may be used for campaign measurement and audience building.

6. Who we share personal information with

C) Who personal information is shared with

We may share information with:

  • Farmers Insurance and Farmers underwriters / program partners — as needed to obtain quotes, bind policies, service accounts, and handle claims or COIs. Our agency markets and places Farmers commercial products; we do not shop your information across unrelated carriers for marketing purposes.
  • Service providers that help us run the business and site, including:
  • Squarespace (website hosting and related platform features)
  • Google (Calendar appointment scheduling; Google Analytics 4 via Squarespace — enabled, Measurement ID G-3EGHVQ78C7)
  • RingCentral (SMS / text messaging and phone / call handling, including call recording where enabled)
  • Google Workspace (business email and related productivity tools)
  • AgencyZoom / Salesforce (customer relationship management / agency CRM)
  • Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Google Ads, LinkedIn (paid marketing disclosure — advertising tags/pixels not installed yet; will update when live)
  • Payment tools: none on the marketing website — we do not collect payments through this site as of this update
  • Professional advisors (attorneys, accountants) when needed
  • Authorities when required by law, regulation, or valid legal process
  • Successors in a business transfer (merger, sale of assets), subject to applicable law

We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not sell personal information to data brokers.
When Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Google Ads, and/or LinkedIn advertising pixels/tags are installed, some activity may qualify as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under CCPA/CPRA. Those tags are not installed yet as of this update. We will provide any required “Do Not Sell or Share” link or mechanism and update this section as counsel / Farmers compliance directs.

D) SMS consent — not shared with third parties or affiliates

SMS consent is not shared with third parties.
SMS consent is not shared with affiliates for SMS consent / marketing purposes.

Your agreement to receive text messages from SDL Commercial Insurance is used only by us to send the messages you opted into (see SMS Terms & Conditions). We do not sell, rent, or share your SMS consent with third parties or affiliates so that they can text you. Separately, we may still share other personal information with Farmers Insurance / underwriters as needed to place and service coverage, as described above — that is not a transfer of your SMS consent for third-party or affiliate messaging.

7. Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you may have the right to:

  • Know / access — what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and (if applicable) sell or share
  • Delete — request deletion of personal information, subject to legal and insurance-related exceptions (for example, we may need to keep records to service a policy, meet regulatory retention rules, or complete a transaction)
  • Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information we maintain
  • Opt out of sale/sharing — if we sell or share personal information as defined by California law
  • Limit use of sensitive personal information — in certain cases defined by CPRA
  • Non-discrimination — we will not deny goods or services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of service because you exercised these rights (except as permitted by law, such as where a difference is reasonably related to the value of the data)

You can also opt out of SMS at any time by texting STOP (see SMS Terms & Conditions).

How to submit a request

We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. You may use an authorized agent as allowed by California law; we may require proof of authorization and identity verification.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy. That page explains necessary vs. analytics/marketing cookies, Squarespace and Google-related cookies, and how you can control them in your browser.

9. SMS / text messaging

If you provide a mobile number and consent to SMS, we may text you as described in our SMS Terms & Conditions (appointment reminders, account/service notifications, coverage follow-ups, and marketing if opted in). Messaging frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Text STOP to opt out; text HELP for help; or visit https://www.sdlcommercialinsurance.com/.

As stated in Section 6(D): SMS consent is not shared with third parties. SMS consent is also not shared with affiliates for SMS consent purposes.

10. Children’s privacy

Our website and services are directed to businesses and adult decision-makers (California artisan contractors and similar commercial clients). They are not directed at children under 13 (or under 16). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided information to us, contact us at (408) 876-7107 or privacy@sdlfarmers.com and we will take appropriate steps.

11. Retention

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, including:

  • Active quoting and policy servicing
  • SMS program records as needed for consent proof and opt-out compliance
  • Legal, tax, licensing, and insurance regulatory requirements
  • Dispute resolution and security

Retention periods vary by record type; a formal retention schedule is maintained with our counsel and Farmers guidance.

When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it, unless a longer retention is required by law.

12. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the information we handle to protect it against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No website or transmission method is 100% secure. Please use care when sending sensitive information by email or unsecured channels.

13. Third parties and international processing

Our site is hosted by Squarespace, and booking uses Google services. These providers may process data in the United States and possibly other countries. That means information collected in California may be processed outside California (and potentially outside the U.S.), subject to those providers’ practices and applicable law.

Links to X, Facebook, and LinkedIn go to those platforms’ sites; their privacy policies apply once you leave ours.

Farmers Insurance and underwriters have their own privacy notices for information they receive to underwrite and service policies. That does not change our rule that SMS consent is not shared with third parties or with affiliates for SMS consent purposes.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after an update means you should review the revised policy. Material changes may also be highlighted on the site when appropriate.
